Marriage in Portugal

To get married in Portugal, the bride and groom do not need to live in Portugal or be Portuguese nationals. Foreigners may choose this country to officially celebrate their marriage, whether civil or religious.

Carrying out a union in Portugal must be organized in advance.

The marriage process precedes the marriage. A lawyer with a specific power of attorney for the act may represent the parties to start the procedure in Portugal. Such power of attorney must contain all the requirements of Portuguese and Community legislation.
