There are many sources that can be accepted for the application, such as: pension, annuity, rental income, trust fund disbursement, dividends shares, dividends from a business, royalties, interese on savings, regular income investments.

The applicant (main) is considered to have the minimum income when he earns the equivalent of the minimum monthly income in Portugal (minimum wage), which currently (2021), is €665 (the minimum for a period of 12 months being €7,980 ).

A minimum of three months historical income is necessary.

To apply for this type of visa, the applicant must start the procedure in their country of residence or place of birth, at the Portugueses Consulate (or via a consulate service provider). The visa will be issued for a period of 4 months, allowing the applicant to travel to Portugal and start applying for a residence permit within this period.

Currently, the D7 Visa allows its holder to obtain a residence permit in Portugal for a period of 2 years, which can then be renewed for a period of 3 years. As long as the minimum length of stay is respected.

After 5 years, the applicant may apply for Portuguese nationality.
